Negative taken of the tombstone of Benjamin Harvey Greathouse at the Elm Springs Cemetery, Washington County, Arkansas. He was an Arkansas State Senator for the Fifth District, Washington County, from 1913 to 1921. He was also a Methodist preacher for 60 years. Marker reads, "B. H. Greathouse, 1849-1940, Methodist Preacher 60 yrs., State Senator 8 years."

Soldier, minister, farmer, merchant, and Arkansas state legislator. Benjamin Harvey Greathouse was born near present day Conway, Ark., on 26 Apr. 1849, the son of Robert and Mary Blount Greathouse. At the age of fifteen he enlisted in the Confederate cavalry where he served until the end of the war. On 18 Mar. 1869 he married Martha Emmaline Kate Stout.
